How to turn your TikTok followers into Instagram followers
Plenty of creators have a TikTok audience and a quiet Instagram, and want the second to catch up. The audiences overlap less than people hope, and the tools for moving people across have changed: TikTok's one-tap Instagram button is gone.
This page covers what TikTok now allows in your profile, how to post your TikToks on Instagram without losing reach, and why most growth on the second app comes from Instagram's own recommendations rather than your TikTok fans.
The short answer
Add your instagram.com profile link to TikTok (it needs 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account), mention Instagram-only content in videos, and post your own videos to Reels without the TikTok watermark. Expect a minority of fans to cross over; most Instagram growth will come from Instagram's own recommendations.
TikTok's support page now says it no longer supports links that open other social media apps, but you can still link to those platforms' websites. So the old Instagram button is replaced by a plain web link to your profile.
Instagram, for its part, has said for years that it avoids recommending Reels with other apps' logos. Export clean and your own videos are treated as yours.
TikTok profile link: 1,000 (followers, or a Verified Business Account)
Instagram app button on TikTok: Gone (a web link to your profile still works)
Watermarked Reels: Not recommended (Instagram: other apps' logos)
TikTok's help page says you can add a website link to your profile if you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account: Profile, Edit profile, then Add next to Links. It also says TikTok no longer supports links that open other social media apps, while links to those platforms' websites are still allowed.
So use your full web address, instagram.com followed by your handle, as the link. Below 1,000 followers, put your Instagram handle in your TikTok bio text and say it in videos.
Give TikTok fans a reason to cross over
A follower on one app has no reason to follow you twice for the same videos. The people who cross are the ones who are promised something they cannot get on TikTok: the full tutorial, behind the scenes, carousels with the written steps, Broadcast channel updates, or replies to their questions.
Say it in the video and pin a comment: "The full checklist is a carousel on my Instagram." Then make sure it is there, pinned to your profile, when they arrive.
Post your TikToks on Instagram the right way
Instagram's creator FAQ is blunt: ditch the watermark, because a third-party watermark may be affecting your reel's reach. Its tips on reach list content with noticeable watermarks among what it is less likely to recommend, and Adam Mosseri said in October 2024 that Instagram tries not to recommend Reels with logos from other apps, while your own logo is fine.
Export the original file before TikTok adds its mark, or edit in an app that exports without one, such as Instagram's own Edits app. Your own videos are original content; the originality rules are about reposting other people's work. More on reformatting in how to repurpose content for Instagram.
Why most of your Instagram growth will not come from TikTok
No published data measures how many TikTok followers also follow the same creator on Instagram, so be wary of anyone who quotes a figure. In practice it is a minority: most people use one short-video app more than the other.
The bigger lever is Instagram's own recommendation system. Reels, Explore and Trial Reels show your videos to people who do not follow you, so the same videos can find a new audience on Instagram. Treat TikTok fans as a head start, not the plan.
What about TikTok's future in the US?
The ban question that pushed many creators to diversify has largely settled. After the 2024 law and the Supreme Court's January 2025 decision, a September 2025 executive order approved a US joint venture, and on 23 January 2026 TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC was formed, with Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX holding 15% each and ByteDance 19.9%.
TikTok remains available in the US. The good reason to build on Instagram is not fear of a ban but not depending on any single app for your audience.
Building the Instagram side on its own terms
Your own audience, on Instagram. Instead of waiting for TikTok fans to cross over, grow from the people on Instagram who already follow creators like you.
The method. With Virallized, you choose target accounts whose followers are the audience you want, and our team runs quality interactions with those people every day. The ones who like what they see visit your profile and follow. Nobody is delivered; every new follower decided. Plans run $99 to $299 a month, each scoped to a published range of 150 to 3,000 followers a month, with Virallized AI included for content, a 7-day money-back guarantee and no contract.
Common questions
How do I get my TikTok followers to follow me on Instagram?
Link your instagram.com profile from TikTok (1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account needed), promise something only Instagram has, and say it in videos and a pinned comment. Expect a minority to cross over.
Can I link my Instagram on TikTok?
Yes, as a website link. TikTok no longer supports links that open other social apps, but you can add a link to your Instagram profile's web address once you have 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account.
Why did the Instagram button disappear from my TikTok profile?
TikTok's help page says it no longer supports links that open or connect you to other social media apps. Add your instagram.com profile as a website link instead.
Can I post my TikToks on Instagram Reels?
Yes, your own videos are fine. Remove the TikTok watermark first: Instagram says third-party watermarks may limit reach and that it avoids recommending Reels with other apps' logos.
Does Instagram penalise TikTok videos?
It avoids recommending Reels that carry other apps' watermarks or logos. A clean export of your own video is treated like any other original Reel.
Is TikTok still available in the US?
Yes. A US joint venture, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, was formed on 23 January 2026, with ByteDance keeping 19.9%.
